Brigade on fire races to glory

Pakenham firefighters compete.

Three years of hard work has paid off for Pakenham Fire Brigade, with the firefighters coming out on top at the 2017 Volunteer Fire Brigade Victoria (VFBV) State Urban Championships.
The brigade’s running team were declared ‘C’ class state champions at the competition, defeating other firefighters from across Victoria.
Participants were tested in 13 events based around firefighting, including a ladder race, discipline march, truck events and a hydrant race.
The locals placed in eight of their 13 events, claiming five gold, and broke the record in the pumper and ladder event for five competitors.
Preparation included training twice a week for the past three years and competing every weekend since November.
