Pakenham’s Mary Blundy has celebrated her 100th birthday with close family at McGregor Gardens.
All five generations of girls were there to help celebrate the special milestone, with a visit from her great-great-granddaughters on Sunday 15 January.
“She totally loved her great-great-grandchildren, Jorja and Stephanie, helping her open her mail to read her letters and birthday cards,“ Mary’s granddaughter Janet Fry said.
“She just loves those girls to pieces.“
Mary was always passionate about her garden, a keen artist and an animal lover.
She bred canaries, enjoyed crafting her own lavender bags, hand-painted birthday cards for family and friends, and was proud of her prize-winning Swiss Roll recipe.
Having spent her childhood in the Lilydale area, Mary is a past member of the Yarra Glen and Lilydale Hunt Club, and for many years she enjoyed showing her horses at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Janet arranged for her to receive letters from the Queen, Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull as well as the Governor.
She said her grandmother was “over the moon“.
“It made me really emotional to see her so touched about it,“ Janet said.
“I went in early in the morning to decorate a bit, and my friend made a beautiful three-layer sponge cake.
“We had a wonderful morning tea all together.”
