Don’t buck the trend

Action from the first Bunyip Rodeo last year.

Pull on the boots and slap on a hat, it’s time for the second annual Bunyip Rodeo at the Recreation Reserve on Saturday 21 January.
Bunyip Rodeo Group spokesperson Gina Dowie said organisers were hoping for great weather and a similar sized crowd as last year’s event.
“We have had a fair bit of interest already,” she said.
Last year’s first event attracted a crowd of 2500 and more than 40 competitors and with a lot of traffic on the group’s Facebook page Gina expects another big day.
“We have 91 riders entered already, which is double the amount of last year’s event. We do expect a few last minute local entrants too but not many.”
And with prize money of $21,000 competition is expected to be fierce.
Gina said the gates open at 11am.
“So, get there early to secure a great viewing spot with plenty of seating on bales and trucks,” she said.
“Tickets can be pre purchased on www.trybooking.com.au.
“This will give you express entry into the event.
“There will be fun for the whole family with kids’ entertainment including a bucking bull.”
There will also be a great variety of food and drink available on the day, too.
“Woodall Rodeo Promotions is the event’s promoter and has the best stock around.
“Action kicks off at 2pm with the Grand Entry Parade with Harleigh Doyle singing the national anthem,” Gina said.
“This will be followed by non-stop action of jackaroos and jillaroos wrestling with huge horned bulls and incredible bucking broncos starting with the Second division Bull Ride, Second division Saddle Bronx, Open Bull Ride, Junior Bull Ride, Ladies Barrel Race, Junior Barrel Race, Break The Open Bareback, Second Division Bull Ride, Open Saddle Bronc, Junior Bull Ride and finally the Open Bull Ride.”
For competition entry and details go to www.woodallrodeo.com.au.
Entries will also be taken on the day.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the action does.
After the Bunyip Rodeo event, there will be bands and music at three venues – The Butcher Shop Hotel, Bunyip Football Club rooms and The Gippsland Hotel.
