THE State Government has announced that the final stage of the $12.6 million Cardinia Road duplication project has been completed ahead of schedule and in time for the busy holiday season.
Works tidying up the median strip and footpath will mean motorists can expect some lanes to continue to be blocked for safety reasons until the end of next week.
Eastern Victoria Region MP Daniel Mulino said Cardinia Road was open after upgrading the road to two lanes in each direction between Shearwater Drive and the Pakenham Bypass.
“We’re getting on with delivering this project to local residents ahead of schedule,” Mr Mulino said.
“The Cardinia Road duplication will reduce congestion, improve travel times and make the road safer.”
A new shared use path along the west side of Cardinia Road has been completed along with upgraded rail signals and a pedestrian crossing near the level crossing.
The upgrade aimed at improving road safety, reducing congestion and providing better connections for pedestrians and cyclists, while accommodating future community growth.
Cardinia Road is a key north-south route, linking four major residential developments and the communities of Pakenham and Officer.
