Berwick’s half-millionaire

A BERWICK woman could not believe her ears as her husband read out the winning numbers from the weekend’s TattsLotto draw and she realised she had won a division one prize of more than $518,000.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, recognised the numbers immediately because she has played the same number for more than 40 years.
She had originally selected them as they had been declared the most frequently drawn TattsLotto numbers at that time.
The Berwick woman purchased her 12-game marked entry from Berwick Lucky Lotto at High Street, Berwick.
“When we got the Sunday paper I said to my husband ‘Oh, just read out the TattsLotto numbers would you?’” she recounted.
“And he started saying ‘1, 40, 12, 24, 14, 16’ and I said ‘Hang on, read it again. I’ll check my ticket because I’ve had those numbers for 42 years’ and I joked ‘Let’s just hope I haven’t changed them.’
“I think I screamed. After 42 years, you just don’t think they’ll come up.
“The stars must have aligned.“
The woman said she planned to visit a travel agent to book a holiday to celebrate and would think about using the prize winnings to upgrade her car.
Berwick Lucky Lotto’s Caroline Joyce was thrilled to discover that the store had sold a division one winning ticket to one of their regular customers.
“It’s been very exciting. When I saw that we’d sold a division one winning entry on the weekend I’ve been waiting and wondering all morning whether the winner would come in to check their ticket,” Ms Joyce said.
“Most recently Berwick Lucky Lotto has sold a division one winning entry in Super 66 in January 2015, but there’s been many more over the outlet’s history.
“We’d like to congratulate the winner and hope that this is just the beginning of a streak of division one winning entries sold here.”
Throughout Australia there were eight entries that won a first division prize of $518,125.72 in TattsLotto draw 3687.
The winning numbers on Saturday 19 November were 1, 40, 12, 24, 14, and 16 with supplementary numbers of 20 and 31.
