BERWICK’S Bayley Molenaar has become Gabbarra Venturer Unit’s first Queen’s Scout recipient after dominating across all award categories.
Bayley took on new challenges in the areas of leadership development, adventurous activities, citizenship and personal growth.
These included completing a first-aid course, a two-night expedition at Bunyip State Park, volunteering at the Cranbourne Food Truck, squad swimming and holding the position of unit chairperson on the Venturer Unit’s council for six months.
Gabbarra Venturer leader Becky Nelson said Bayley had matured into a “capable and independent young man“ who has used all of his skills to achieve the Queen’s Scout award.
“Bayley has consistently taken on responsibilities and showed leadership within the unit. He is a great role model to his fellow Venturers and linking Scouts,” Ms Nelson said.
“At the same time, Bayley has been involved in organising activities outside of scouting, and managing all the responsibilities and activities associated with his VCE studies at Beaconshills College.
“Bayley consistently shows how the Scout Law and Promise are important in his everyday life.
“Bayley is always friendly, stands up for what is right and defends those who are less fortunate. This is one of Bayley’s greatest strengths: the ability to use his leadership skills to challenge and inspire others.
Ms Nelson said Bayley set an example for what the Scouting Association was all about.
“I believe his experiences will enable him to continue to take an active role in both Scouting and his community,” she said.
Bayley was presented his award on Saturday 8 October at Government House along with other Victorian recipients.
Gabbarra Venturer Unit, reformed at the beginning of 2015, is a combination of 1st Berwick, 1st Casey and Berwick Central Scout groups of children aged 14 to just under 16 years old.
