EMERGING Pakenham singer-songwriter and guitarist Brad Ellis will launch his debut EP Bluestone Lane next month under his label The Hunter Express.
Ellis burst onto the music scene with his first single, Home, released in January, receiving airplay on several independent radio stations across Australia and earning him semi-finalist recognition in the international songwriting competition Unsigned Only in the United States.
The five-track EP was produced by Callum John Barter, who has worked with acclaimed artists Dan Sultan and Fraser A. Gorman, and mastered by Steve Smart known for his work with the likes of Vance Joy and Kasey Chambers.
Ellis said the first release, Hoping You Don’t Mind, is a throwback to its 1970s roots, with each song telling real stories written from experiences.
“I’ve written songs since I was young and started learning to play guitar when I was about 13 years old,” he said.
“I do the majority of my songwriting late at night or in the early hours of the morning. They say that’s when you’re most creative – but hopefully I don’t wake the neighbours!
“The EP came together very naturally over a number of days with a great selection of musicians and friends, with Jarrad Brown from Dorsal Fins featuring on bass.”
The Hunter Express will launch Bluestone Lane on Saturday 22 October at The Gasometer Hotel (Upstairs) in Collingwood.
Ellis will perform at the Bunyip Music Festival and Brewers Feast beer festival in Abbotsford later this year.
