A WOMEN’S-only group in Berwick is helping kids with type one diabetes understand and take care of their condition.
The Lioness Club of Berwick recently raised $1000 at a dinner event which will sponsor underprivileged youngsters to attend educational, networking camps to learn they’re not the only one.
“This is such a great cause which assists children with type one diabetes to have fun whilst learning they are not the only child needing injections, tablets and a special diet,” said the club’s secretary Judith Van Es.
“They are encouraged to be in charge of this disease and not let it interfere with anything they want in life.”
The Lioness Club of Berwick sponsored two kids to attend the Kids Diabetes Camps’ first week-long program in Mt Eliza earlier this year.
Judith said the club was pleased to receive a “delightful letter of thanks from one mother” and hopes their recent fund-raising efforts will bring the same joy and learning to other families.
“We have been given the chance for more fund-raising at an evening barbecue Christmas event in December so hope to assist with more regular camps and events during the coming year,” she said.
The Berwick group raised the funds at a dinner event held at Clover Cottage on Wednesday 15 October.
The money was presented to camp founder Brooke McGowan-Grills on Tuesday 11 November.
